Former Board Member of the National Bank of Abu Dhabi , United Arab Emirates. He served as Chairman of the Risk Management Committee and member of the Strategy and Development Committee at the National Bank of Abu Dhabi. He began his career in the Finance and Administration Department of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority in 1978, and represented the Authority on the boards of directors of various banks and financial institutions. He moved to Abu Dhabi Investment Company to work there as managing director in 1982, responsible for restructuring the company. Then, in 1984, he was appointed managing director of Gulf International Bank in Bahrain. He then served as Managing Director and CEO of the “Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank” in 1985, after which he held the position of Governor of the “Central Bank” of the United Arab Emirates between 1991 and 2014. In 1994, he also contributed to the establishment of the “UAE Switch” unit, which began its work. In 1996, all automated teller machines (ATMs) were linked together in the UAE. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies between 1992 and 1994. He was chosen to obtain the title of Governor of the Year for all central banks in the Middle East by the “Emerging Markets Group” in 2006, and was also honored by the “Emirates Banks Federation” in 2014. He holds a master’s degree in international trade law, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance.
