He has been Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE since 2009, and Head of the Presidential Office since 2004.

He was named Minister of the “Ministry of Presidential Affairs” in 2004, after the merger of the Office of the President and the Presidential Office, and he was assigned to head the “Ministerial Council for Services” in 2006, whose name was changed in February 2016 to the “Ministerial Council for Development.”

In 1997, he was appointed head of the office of his father, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, where he remained with him until his passing in November 2004. He became Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in the Ministry of Presidential Affairs in the 2009 ministerial formation.
