He is a member of the Board of Directors of the same company, a member of the Board of Directors of “BlackRock” in the United States of America since July 17, 2023, a member of the Board of Trustees of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, a member of the International Advisory Council of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and the International Council of JP Morgan Bank.

He is a member of the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum, the International Council of JP Morgan, the Advisory Board of the Society of Petroleum Engineers in the United States of America, and the Advisory Board of the President and CEO of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the same country.

He started his career at Saudi Aramco in 1982, where he was an engineer in the Oil Production Department. He then held various positions in engineering, drilling and reservoir management. He then held a number of supervisory positions in the engineering and production departments between 1991 and 1997. In 1997, he became the Director of Production at the Ras Tanura Refinery. He then held the position of Senior Petroleum Engineer in the company in 2004, and then assumed the position of Executive Director of Petroleum Engineering in 2005.

He was appointed Saudi Aramco Vice President of Petroleum Engineering and Development in 2006, then became Acting President of Exploration and Production in 2007, until he assumed the position of Senior Vice President of Exploration and Production in January 2008.

He served as Chairman of the “Joint Supervisory Committee for Cooperation with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology”, and was a member of the Board of Directors of Dhahran Techno Valley Company.

He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Petroleum Engineers in 2017, the fourth person in the world to receive this award, and the Charles F. Rand Gold Medal, which is awarded by the society for distinguished achievements in mining management, in 2015.

Forbes Middle East ranked him among the Most Powerful CEOs in the Middle East for 2021 and 2022.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in 1982. He has also completed a number of training programs, such as the Senior Executive Program in 2002 at Columbia University in the United States of America, the Saudi Aramco International Business Program in 2000, and the Management Development Seminar at Saudi Aramco in 1999 in the United States.
