Ahmed Mukhtar Ahmed's Bio
The first blind teacher in the UAE.
During 1968, Ahmed suffered from infections and medicine was not advanced at that time, so he did not receive the appropriate treatment, which led to his retinal detachment, and gradually he began to lose his sight. Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum sent him abroad for treatment, but he did not get any positive results. Immediately after the union, he went to Britain for treatment, but there was no hope for his condition.
He has been teaching for 30 years, and in 2011, he moved to work in the Ministry of Education as a visual impairment specialist. During this period, he conducted many training courses and workshops for teachers, and trained parents of blind students on how to deal with a disabled child from the early stages.
In 2015, he was honored by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, among 44 Emirati figures in the second round of the UAE Pioneers Initiative, as the first blind teacher in the UAE.
In 1972, the former Minister of Education, Abdullah Taryam, sent Ahmed and 6 blind students to study in Bahrain. He joined the “Al Noor Institute” in Bahrain, which was established with the contribution of the UAE, after it was affiliated with the regional center in Saudi Arabia. He completed his primary and preparatory studies at the institute. In high school, he was one of the first students to join integration schools. In 1982, he graduated from high school with a very good grade, and in 1993, he graduated from university, majoring in Arabic language and education.
