Abdul Ghaffar Hussein's Bio
Emirati writer.
He joined Dubai Municipality when it was established in 1957. He was the Secretary of the Municipal Council and the Secretary of the Council’s Minutes, until he was appointed as Deputy Director of the Municipality with the rank of Director. He represented the Municipality in several international and Arab conferences and seminars on municipalities, and continued in his position until September 1979.
He assumed the presidency of the " Emirates Writers and Authors Union " between 1987 and 1992, and the " Emirates Human Rights Association " from its establishment in 2006 until 2015, and he also contributed to the establishment of the " Al Jalila Foundation ".
He participated in establishing the “Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Award” and chaired its Board of Trustees for sixteen years.
He contributed to establishing the first public library in the Emirates, the Dubai Public Library , in 1963, in addition to the Al Fahidi Museum. He also participated in establishing the Dubai News Magazine, and was one of its first writers.
He has several books and studies, including: “National Concerns”, “Readings in Books from the Emirates” in 2000, “Taryam Omran: Glimpses from His Life”, “Sultan Al Owais: The Prize... Poetry” 2003, “The Blessed Burda and Its Approach”, “Melodies from the Conscience: Selected Poetry”, “Creative Images in the Poetry of Sultan Al Owais” 2012, “Abdullah Omran Taryam: The Collective Personality” 2014, “Reading in the Book of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid: My Vision - Flashes of Thought” 2015, and “Mohammed bin Rashid in a Race against Time” 2018.
In 2011, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum awarded him the “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Sash” in recognition of his national achievements and contributions. He also received the “Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Achievement Award” in 2015, which is given in recognition of distinguished contributions to the world of literature in the United Arab Emirates. He was also honored by the “ Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation ” in 2008.
